Sandpaper or emery board

Toothpicks
*Note: Alternately, the casting for this project may be made from paper instead of clay (see Basic Paper Casting Instructions).
Instructions
1. While clay is still wet, use a knife to trim castings close to the designs (or use a cookie cutter). Let dry.
2. Sand any rough edges smooth.
3. Apply a coat of primer to both sides of each casting and let dry.
4. Paint castings white. Let dry.
5. Optional: Use Rub ‘n Buff® to highlight castings (see instructions in Techniques for Special Effects)
6. Optional: With cake decorating supplies, pipe borders on your cake including one around the middle of the cake (or have your local bakery do this for you).
7. Making sure they are evenly spaced, put 8 toothpicks along the middle border as markers for placing your castings (toothpicks are easy to see and adjust when looking down at the cake).
8. Remove toothpicks one at a time, and press castings in their places, alternating the designs.
9. Make cake top per instructions (below), and place it on top of the cake.

Instructions
1. While clay is still wet, (1) trim close to the design on 2 satin hearts, the tulip duo left, and the tulip duo right castings; (2) trim close to the design on remaining satin heart casting, but also cut off bottom ribbons; (3) trim close to the design on love birds casting, and cut off center tulip. 6. From cardboard, cut a triangle with sides 2 1/2″ long. Glue 2 toothpicks, bamboo skewers or wire (cut down to 3″) to the base of the riangle (see closeup).
7. Glue corner pieces from the square doily to both sides of the triangle (see closeup).
8. Glue castings to the doily-covered triangle as follows:
(1) On one side, glue the satin heart with no bottom ribbons to the top. Glue the other satin hearts below it.
(2) On the other side, glue the love birds to the top and the tulip duos below it. Overlapping is not a problem… it adds extra dimension to the piece. (Refer to photos)
9. Gather a small tuft of tulle using thread or wire. Push it up through the toothpicks, and hot glue it in place at the base of the cardboard.
10. Optional: Hot glue a spray of pearls and beads into the tulle as shown.
11. Optional: Hot glue one satin bow to each side of the cake top where the tulle touches the base of the triangle. This will hide any wire or thread.
Party Favors
Materials Needed
1 Rycraft cookie stamp or craft stamp each: #299 – Floral Duo Left (or #300 – Floral Duo Right)
and #297 – Tulip Duo Left (or #298 – Tulip Duo Right)
Clay – we recommend Creative Paperclay® which is non-toxic and air dries to a paintable white
2 clay castings* each (or more) #300 – Floral Duo Right and #298 – Tulip Duo Right (see Basic Clay Casting Instructions)
Crimper cookie cutter
Sandpaper or emery board
Acrylic paints: pearl white pink, green, purple
Rub ‘n Buff®
Foam brush or Spouncer by PLAID®
Soft cloth (optional)
Tulle cut in 6″ diameter circle
Candy
1/8″ or 1/4″ white satin ribbon 6″ long
Low-temp hot glue
*Note: Alternately, the casting for this project may be made from paper instead of clay (see Basic Paper Casting Instructions).
Instructions
1. While clay is still wet, cut castings out using crimper cookie cutter. Let dry.
2. Sand any rough edges smooth.
3. Apply a coat of pearl white acrylic paint as a primer.
4. Mix pearl white paint with other colors, and paint details of the design as shown. Optional: If you have a large quantity to create, you may want to use the dry brush method or use Rub ‘n Buff to finish the decorations (see instructions in Techniques for Special Effects).
5. Cut circular pieces of tulle or purchase them pre-cut. Place candies in the middle of the tulle circle, and gather the tulle in your fingers at the top of the candies. Then tie it up with the satin ribbon using a simple knot, then if ribbon is longer, you may tie a tiny bow.
6. Holding the ribbon to the side and out of the way, use hot glue to attach the casting to the knot. It does not take much glue to affix the clay castings because they are so lightweight.
Caution: Use low-temp glue since hot glue may melt the tulle.
